How to Protect Yourself Texas Medical Insurance Scams

Texas health insurance scams are initiated by fraudulent insurance companies looking to make a quick buck off your desperation for individual health insurance. 

1.  Know that medical insurance scams exist.  According to ConsumerAffairs.com, medical insurance scams are on the rise across the country.  In 2004, Texas reported 31 medical insurance scam artists in operation. Texas medical insurance scam artists are out there ready to prey on the self-employed and un-insured workers.
   
2.  Don't be fooled by scams.  Insurance scams can cost you thousands of dollars in health care bills.  If a company claims to be able to save you money on premiums through immunity from Texas medical insurance regulations, run - don't walk - the other way.  Each month you will pay these scammers affordable premiums, but when you get sick and file a claim, they won't pay.  If you don't recognize the scam upfront, you won't realize you've been scammed until it is too late and your credit and finances are at risk.
   
3. Report suspected Texas medical insurance scam artists.  If you've been targeted by one of the many Texas medical insurance scammers in operation or know someone who has been a victim of an insurance scam, contact your Texas medical insurance commissioner.
